Kelkenberg Farm of Akron has been in business doing hayrides and farm tours since 1991. It is a working farm run by Andy and Marilyn Kelkenberg and their four children, Laura, Andrew, Jacob and Catherine. They started out simple but have grown steadily over the years. The farm was originally owned by Andy’s grandparents, Arlene and Aloysis Clasgens. After Marilyn and Andy bought the farm in 1989, a lot of hard work went into the
100-year-old farm house and all of the buildings and barns outside.
The farm has many animals you can visit with on their farm tours: goats, pigs. sheep, chickens, horses, donkeys, and more. You can learn a little about them, harvest a pumpkin from the vine, and go home with a good feeling! They are only a short country drive into the rural area of Akron, about 20 minutes or so from Buffalo, right outside of Clarence, NY.
This wholesome, family-oriented, entertaining, and educational farm is heart warming for children and adults. The Kelkenbergs take great pride in their farm and keep it clean and tidy for visitors and the animals. It isn’t just a farm, it’s a family tradition.
Marilyn says she loves watching the children step off the bus to visit the farm and tell them how they will use their eyes, ears, noses, and hands to learn about the animals. “Teachers tell me the kids talk about their trip for months,” said Marilyn. She also hires workers for the busy fall season when her kids are in school, so she has help with the tours, pony rides, hay rides, etc. for the school children.
